Nikos Spyropoulos died a few hours ago from galloping lung cancer at the age of 63, Nikos Spyropoulos.
In November 1977 with his brother Vassilis Spyropoulos on guitar, Andreas Mouzakitis (drums), Makis Blazis (bass) and Costas Kouremenos and George Kotsmanidis on vocals
The Spyropoulos brothers had already collaborated with Mouzakitis on the band Last Barricade.
The name was suggested by their colleague George Gaitanos, inspired by the story of Spyridoula Rapti, a victim of a crime that shocked the public in 1956. The 12-year-old domestic helper had been tortured for 36 hours with an electric iron from the androgynous man who raised her.
Spyridoula started concerts where they mainly played covers by Rolling Stones, Lou Reed, Velvet Underground as well as blues and quickly attracted the interest of the relevant audience. In 1978, Kouremenos, Kotsmanidis and Blazis had already left, with the latter being replaced by Tolis Mastrokalos, while shortly afterwards Mouzakitis was replaced by Tassos Fotodimos.
